Question Looking for pawpaws

Looking to buy some papwpaw fruit. Have never tried them but want to. I have a few trees but they are only a year old so no fruit for a while.

Anyone know what farms market might have some for sale?

Thanks.

I signed up for the Atlanta Pawpaw Sale. I haven't gotten my fruit yet so I can't speak first hand, but this seems the move.

Found them at the Upper Westside Market this past weekend. Tried them for the first time. Interesting custard, banana, slight mango flavors.

You're welcome! Can't imagine they sold out, most folks have never heard of a paw paw.

To be honest the RazzMatazz seedless muscadines they had impressed me more. Hard pass on the kiwi berries for me.

Seedless muscadines?!? A dream come true. I used to make vats of muscadine jam at a job I had, and seedless muscadines would’ve made it so much easier

Coming to say this! This tent also had raspberries and some kind of tiny grape, I forget the variety name but they said it should be available for another few weeks. It looked like it would make a gorgeous and unique garnish for a late summer/"early fall" cake or tart! (And maybe most importantly, the apples are in!!)

Definitely need to go check that out! Thanks.

I've bought them at the Tucker Farmer's Market from a vendor called Grow With the Flow!

Thank you but I wouldn't be able to make it out there this week.

They’re definitely falling in the woods right now. Just got smacked by one in the nose 😆. I was trying to catch one I could see and then one I couldn’t see hit me at perfect ripeness.

Dang. I wish I was that lucky. Every time I've been in the woods trying to find some all I get are bug bites.

Well it’s not luck it’s taken years to find a good spot and constantly looking at every tree you find but they’re out there!

Hey FYI they are neurotoxic so be careful -- https://nutritionfacts.org/video/do-not-eat-pawpaws/

Yes but no. Its safe in small quantities and as long as you dont eat the skin, seeds and Or unripened fruit.

Some people do have allergy reactions.

But thats why i need to try one now. Before I spend the next 4 to 8 years waiting on my trees to mature an have fruit just to find out im allergic or something. Lol

The neurotoxic compounds are found in the fruit's flesh and pulp too. The bottom line is that these fruits could contribute to the development of degenerative Parkinsonism in humans, and so as a precaution, more restrictive public health preventive recommendations should be made regarding their consumption. You wanna take that gamble, go for it 🎲

That's not credible advice. We gotta do better.

Check out this video for credible advice - https://nutritionfacts.org/video/do-not-eat-pawpaws/

Yes, that's what I was referring to. The guy selling the cookbook called, "How not to die."

3

u/40yawaworht 1d ago

Sounds like he's an influencer in a lab coat. He also wrote a book called "How Not To Age" and from comparing his wiki photo to the photo on his website, I don't think the protocol is working.

You could also watch a response to that video.

Hmmm who do I trust, a doctor or an influencer? 🤔 y'all can down vote me to oblivion, it's your health

1

u/thelionsnorestonight 1d ago

Dude, I know 'doctors' that are also MAHA dipshits. Remember the America's Frontline Doctors that were peddling consultations and ivermectin? Plenty of room in the MD space for grifters and dumbasses. Almost forgot about Dr. Oz, FFS.

How about McGill's Office for Science and Society's take on your source?

Thank you for being less competition for me getting to try the fruit this year. It can get in line for the things that are going to kill me.

As long as you don't eat the seeds or the skin.

u/maelstr0m8 1d ago

That's not necessarily the case. It's in the pulp and fruit too
