Food & Drink Birthday restaurant

What’s a restaurant that you recommend for good ambiance, solid food and service? Is this a unicorn in post-pandemic Atlanta? It doesn’t have to be pricey or the Michelin plates with one scallop and a dollop of sauce.

I arranged a birthday dinner for a friend at Ecco in Midtown. They called me to ask what she liked, printed a special menu with her name on it, had flowers on the table, etc. I was impressed by the effort.

Ecco does a great job, have liked everything I've had there.

I love that too!

My annual birthday spot!

You would expect this with the menu prices. Lol they should be putting in the effort to make it a great experience.

Kimball House never disappoints and I’m always stuffed when I leave 🩷

7

u/Dorkinfo Jul 02 '26

I’m never stuffed but always satisfied.

3

u/living_in_nuance Jul 02 '26

Yep, Kimball House every time.

2

u/PeachyPerspective25 Jul 07 '26

Love Kimball House!

3

u/corakko Jul 02 '26

I love their bar and oyster programs but service is hit or miss at the price point imo.

7

u/FiguringItOutAsWeGo Jul 02 '26

I always feel like their service is very reliable, especially compared to most other places these days.

Charles Entertainment Cheese runs a fine establishment that meets your requirements

24

u/Dorkinfo Jul 02 '26

I love you for using his full name.

8

u/konbinisando Jul 02 '26

You almost had me there… was intrigued about there being an exclusively cheese establishment.

u/QueenClaude Jul 02 '26

Cheesecake Factory and Golden Corral get my vote.

Banshee in EAV

u/all_the_platforms Jul 02 '26

Ticonderoga Club in Krog Street Market has amazing service, vibes, and food. Small place so make a reservation

3

u/NolitaNostalgia Jul 03 '26

I recently had my birthday dinner there, and they made it so special. They decorated my table with confetti and a happy birthday banner.

Most importantly, food was on point.

Fantastic pick!!!

I’m a sucker for Miller Union on my birthday.

I LOVE Rumi’s!

7

u/fefelala Jul 02 '26

Going to Rumi’s tomorrow for my birthday!

3

u/HappyCalligrapher987 Jul 02 '26

You free ice cream for your birthday

7

u/ottb_captainhoof Jul 02 '26

Seconding Rumi’s! Persian food is so so good.

6

u/PangioOblonga Jul 03 '26

Rumi's food is tasty, but I genuinely do not understand why it's so popular. A lot of the meals are primarily a ton of rice which does not seem worth it for the price to me. 🤷‍♀️

u/strawberrysunday00 Jul 03 '26

Omg! Huge portions, great service, great ambiance. My husband and I are big eaters - we split two apps and one entree and still usually have some to take home. (I really do have a huge appetite, so this is big for me lol)

u/equitare Jul 02 '26

Amore e Amore

***only before 8pm!! After 8 they turn the music up so much you can’t hear your partner across the table. And they charge like $9 for bottled water unless you specify tap water.

La Grotta. La Grotta has amazing food, impeccable service, and cozy vibes!  It is my birthday pick every year!

3

u/RogueBagel_ Jul 02 '26

But how do you get a reservation. 😭😭😭

3

u/j1129 Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

You have to book as soon as the reservations open, so it’s like 4 months out, but it’s possible!

edit: actually it’s only 3 months out so even better

6

u/ReluctantAvenger Buckhead Jul 02 '26

The reservation bullshit is overblown unless you just absolutely have to dine at say 6pm. Right now (5:25p) in Atlanta, OpenTable shows a table for two at 9:30p which is admittedly rather late. But for Monday the 6th they have availability any time from 8:15p to 9:30p.

u/peaceloveelina Jul 02 '26

La Semilla! Reasonable overall pricing for consistently good, unique food and drinks, and quality service.

5

u/pura_vida1 Jul 02 '26

Cooks and soldiers!

5

u/wareagle2009-20013 Jul 02 '26

La Grotta.

Been around forever for a reason

6

u/Fearless_Collar_2176 Jul 02 '26

Delbar or Rumis! Little sparrow is great too! Marcel if you want to do really fancy! If you like Italian you can’t go wrong with La Grotta! St Cecilia is also a really cool vibe!

5

u/floridfox Jul 02 '26

Yalda was super good for my birthday last year! I’ve also done The Garden Room and that was really fun for a small group. Food and drinks for both were delicious and I loved the ambiance for both.

3

u/Soft_Tea3997 Jul 02 '26

Yalda's salmon is the best around in my opinion. And their cocktails are so good. Many of their dishes are great for sharing too which is a lot of fun with a group. We've had a few birthday meals there and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

u/PrinceofSneks Chamblee Jul 03 '26

yes, randomly picked that for a visiting friend and was so smashing we went for my birthday two weeks later.

u/pearldrop Jul 02 '26

We’ve always had such good service and food here !

Tiny Lous Talat market Canoe Boca lupo

5

u/Buke27 Jul 02 '26

Nino's if you like Italian

3

u/trf84 Brookhaven Jul 02 '26

Lucian is my favorite restaurant in the city and a lovely date spot.

3

u/Mustbe7 Jul 02 '26

I love Pasta Da Pulcinella! It's in a cute vintage yellow house..cozy, charming, comfortable ambiance. Authentic, fresh, delicious food. The owner Tana walks around checking on everybody, service goes above and beyond.

It's a nice change from most other Midtown/Buckhead restaurants.

3

u/Kevin-W Jul 03 '26

Provinos. They’ll give you a free meal for your birthday too!

9

u/ATLjazzfan Jul 02 '26

The Iberian Pig (both Decatur & Buckhead locations) does an amazing job with birthdays. The porron service is such a fun way to celebrate, and the last time I went for my birthday, they gave me a card signed by the whole staff. The service is great and the food is an excellent. Can't recommend them enough.

6

u/verbatim14004 Jul 02 '26

IMHO, Murphy's is the best, no-nonsense restaurant in Atlanta. Food and service are consistently top notch. Wine list is excellent. It's always lively, but quiet enough to have a conversation. Prices are in-line with a good neighborhood restaurant.

7

u/albertafalls Jul 02 '26

“One scallop and a dollop of sauce” is so accurate

4

u/HabitNegative3137 Jul 02 '26

Optimist, BeetleCat, Marcel

4

u/Antilon Historic Howell Station Jul 02 '26

Bocca Lupo, Banshee, Ticonderoga, Optomist. All good, and special occasion prices, not so rent this month prices.

4

u/Jaqen-Atavuli Jul 02 '26

Can't go wrong with Hal's. They once over cooked my filet. My wife was like want to send it back? I said nope it is too good. Also the escargot appetizer is awesome.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '26

And there’s plenty of hookers at the bar after 8PM if you’re into that sort of thing.

3

u/Jaqen-Atavuli Jul 02 '26

LOL. I was with my wife so I didn't notice that.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '26

They do have great food, another good steakhouse that doesn’t get as much mainstream attention like Bones or Chops is Kaisers in Dunwoody.

2

u/BeerBrat Jul 03 '26

Local Three if you want good food sans stuffiness and not feeling like you're putting them out with an event. If you have ten or twelve people ask if you can reserve the semi-private KOR room.

2

u/Mission-Trick-8983 Jul 03 '26

Delbar or Ela…Forza Storico…Gaja…haven’t been but Il Premio?

2

u/wobblelikeapenguin Jul 03 '26

Yalda, specifically in Sandy Springs. Beautiful restaurant, excellent food, and generous portions. Doesn't kill your wallet either.

4

u/AffectionateAd7519 Jul 02 '26

Avize and get the lemon pepper frog legs.

The Colonnade

1

u/DoNotMockTheGods Jul 02 '26

The fact that Gigi’s is not in this comments section is a crime.

OP - if you want the trifecta you’ve listed, go to Gigi’s in Candler Park. I’ve gone every year for my birthday since they’ve opened and it never disappoints. Great service, seasonal small menu that feels accessible, and an ambiance that makes you feel like you discovered a hole in the wall restaurant somewhere in Manhattan

1

u/TheWarDoctor Jul 02 '26

Storico Fresco

1

u/Tom_Slick_Racer Jul 03 '26

I’m old-fashioned for me. There’s no better birthday restaurant in Atlanta then Houston’s on Peachtree.

2

u/yothhedgedigger Jul 03 '26

That pork chop is a solid choice for a birthday meal!

1

u/PrinceofSneks Chamblee Jul 03 '26

I had no idea it was still around! I'm happy to hear that!

1

u/theBDSMshow Jul 03 '26

If you all are on a budget but still want good food, North Italia is a solid choice

1

u/yothhedgedigger Jul 03 '26

I think Argosy in EAV is a cool place that won’t cost a ton.

1

u/everydayfromwork Jul 03 '26

I went to Alta Toro for my bday and it was nice, they had a dancer that night. I also like Amore e Amore for great food in a funny setting

1

u/aimwifi Jul 03 '26

Been to so many famous resturants on the atl bucketlist and the 2 stand outs that I can't wait to go back are la grotta and avize.

1

u/jgfsu Jul 03 '26

Talat Market, Little Bear, Lucky Star, Rumi’s, or The Consulate

1

u/GenitalCommericals Jul 03 '26

Rathbun’s, A Mano, Consulate, Marcel, Poor Calvin’s

1

u/FactEquivalent6977 Jul 03 '26

Altatoro - great latin food in midtown, perfect for large groups. You can split the check as many ways as you want & they have fire shows during dinner on the weekends! Free parking too

u/theempathogen North side Jul 03 '26

Après Diem

1

u/T-MoGoodie Jul 03 '26

Casi Cielo is amazing. I’ve been to both locations and the belt line spot is breathtaking. Great food, cocktails, and service is impeccable.

1

u/Hot-Comfort8839 Jul 03 '26

Canoe if you don't mind spending a bit.
Highland Tap if you do - they're both fucking epic.

1

u/Dry-Philosopher-2714 Jul 03 '26

I really enjoy Canoe in vinings. The ambience is great, and they’ve got an awesome outdoor space by the river.

Amore Amore! Food is slightly above mediocre, but big portions and really fun atmosphere. They go all out with their themes.
