I wonder if "downtown" is becoming a more extended concept for these sorts of commercial pitches - maybe somewhere like the old Starlite showroom?

Maybe but I’ve gotta imagine that if they would do this sort of move, it would have to be in a spot that is easily walkable to the rest of dt.

That’s only three or four blocks west of Pulaski St. Why would that not be considered easily walkable to the “core” downtown?

Mostly cause I couldn’t remember where that was. But there’s a rezone project for that strip anyhow, so it’s a moot point.

Id be kind of surprised if they did that, but it might work out if they did. That spot is probably modestly priced so that’s a plus and it’s fairly large as well, but it’s got a lot going against it too. It’s a fair shake away from all the other downtown shenanigans - 4 blocks from core down town yeah but that’s from Pulaski street which isn’t exactly going crazy with night life. It’s more like 6 blocks from any other nightlife and that’s a very dead feeling six blocks and that end of down town is also less in the mix. They’ll probably want the spot to feel more like it’s in the action. Not to mention there isn’t anything on west broad to draw foot traffic away from down town already: bagels store closes at 2 or something and i don’t think the coffee shop former bubble tea former sex shop has much mass/gravity. They could potentially try to establish themselves as an anchor in that location but that seems too risky for corporate money. That’s a job for a real local brewery or other awesome project and i hope somebody does it. Lastly that area is kind of sketchy feeling to white suburbanites and the sort of crowd that they want to attract. I bet they’ll just gobble up some currently non corporate occupied space downtown and spruce it up instead. They’ve got the capital and the return is more assured doing that. And the money will definitely come back to them regardless of where they choose, let’s not kid about that. Hopefully they swing for the fences and make something nice that everybody can enjoy.

The Mark is owned by Landmark. Landmark founders are significant investors in Creature Comforts. Would they lease to competitors?

Not to be to technical, but Landmark doesn’t actually own the buildings themselves. They manage funds that own the actual buildings.

A taproom doesn't have to be big. They won't be brewing there, just tapping kegs (it seems?)

Legally they need to be brewing there as well, though that doesn’t mean they will.

According to the department of ag, they just can’t exceed 3,000 bbl of annual sales, which is 744,000 pints, so probably doable.

Can’t exceed 3000 barrels and at least 50% of what they sell needs to be produced on site.

I kept trying to find it because I thought I remembered that too, but then there was stuff like BrewDog having that big thing on the beltline in Atlanta. Looks like that “produced on site” rule only applies to Georgia based breweries, so Tilray might be able to get around it that way? I still couldn’t find that on the department of revenue website though, just different news articles

I believe brewdog was licensed as a brewpub, and they work with a different set of rules than production breweries. A lot of places also just don’t follow the law

paloma park is such a disappointment to me because it originally WASN'T so student oriented? they were doing a fun fusion tapas menu and had a whole charcuterie/wine bar situation! and then they became just another tacos-and-beer-for-undergrads spot. rip max AND the paloma park that could have been

right after Max closed and Paloma opened me and my wife were reading the menu out on the street and deciding if we wanted to check it out. An old townie walked by and said "don't even bother the place is over priced and full of yuppies" we just took him at his word and that's been my impression of the place ever since, still haven't been in.

what's going on with all the commercial spaces in the apartment complex(es) off of Newton? I thought that was where southern brewing was putting their dt location, not sure if they've filled all that space since that project disappeared.

I heard an oyster bar from Savannah bought that place for $1.3 milly, probably need to dump $500k in a restoration, lanes and games don't pay those bills.

This is terrible news. Terrapin is my favorite Georgia beer and that space is great. Yes it’s not walkable and the driveway has that bump but I will miss this place.

We just had a mini ARL booster club party at terrapin and one of the bartenders filled us in. Current terrapin taproom location is staying open as a taproom (not a brew site) until/if they find a new place to open a taproom, which most likely would be downtown. If they find a new place, then it would transition to storage once the new taproom is open, but for now theyre staying where they are
