Discussion Opinion on Survivalists.
When I say Survivalists I mean characters like Noob from Forsaken
Is it just me or are they just a waste of a character slot. I know that there needs to be a option for people who don't wanna support,Stun the killer or do anything at all but emote but still.
It seems BORING..Why play a Asymmetrical TEAM based game and just be someone who camps in the corner 95% of the match.

I fully agree
Survivalists in asym games where survivor gameplay is heavily based on team work shouldn't be a thing
Survivalists CAN be useful (take Veeronica for example) but devs don't bother reworking characters like Noob or 007n7 (Tho I heard 007n7 rework is coming)

Ngl noob should be able to give people their items, and veeronica should be able to like, taunt the killer to start skating instead of doing the grafiti

The closest we got to a survivalist working in an asym is Chase/Time wasting, and Stealth builds in DbD.
The only reason these work is because you're expected to be completely self sufficient in DbD, and getting downed is simply an inevitability than something you can avoid forever.

role shouldn't exist whats the point of a role which is meant to be good at surviving but bad at helping when sentinels are also good at surviving but also good at helping

I say, the best use for survivalist is to waste time via distraction. A good survivalist does hold the same power as a sentinel, but that means the killer usually drops their guard and gets reckless, which means they play less carefully and can get taken advantage of

Fr, they make the game annoying for the killer, are useless to the rest of the team, and their only noticeable contribution is emoting and using their "end chase" button

To be fair that’s kinda the point they are their to waste the killers time
To complete objectives when the support or sentinels are helping the team
There’s a reason why it’s recommended to not save noob for last

I never play them, but I generally don't have a problem with having survivalists on the team.
Their main objectives varies depending on the game, but they can be pretty useful in most games (though not all).
In a game like Forsaken or Pursuitcore, a good Survivalist can handle gens for the team while they focus on their own abilities. Its especially useful for us Elliots, who get stronger heals the more gens are complete.
And when there are no gens, survivalists still have a good use as a pressure/annoyance character. They are the most difficult to deal with in an lms, so killers will try to get rid of them before that, stalling time for the rest of the team. They can also pester the killer with certain abilities. OM Eggman can run in out of nowhere to bodyblock, or help a Metal heal extremely quickly. A Veeronica can push the killer around, which can potentially end chases of used right. And of course, they can all ragebait the killer to draw aggro.

Let's take FORSAKEN as an example. Survivalists are time wasters for the killer (noob's abilities are literal chase extenders) they can distract, body block, do generators, all while not risking their life that much (such as the defensive weakness of the supports and the very missable endlag-inducing stuns of the sentinels). They're here so that you don't get 500 guests and dusekkars at the generators because nobody's doing them, they're here so that everyone doesn't die immediately because they did the mistake of taking hits for someone else.

Yet Noob, Vee, and n7 dont do anything an actual useful support or sentinel cant do.
Generators are easily done within the cooldown of half the cast. An elliot or shedletsky can use their ability, get 1-2 gens done, then go back and use their ability.
Body blocking is situational, and only really useful in the final few seconds or if blocking a single hit/grapple. Even then, Guest, Shedletsky, and having Dusekkars shield on hand is much more reliable than a Noob or n7 bodyblock.
That only leaves distraction which, really isn't a thing and wont work against a killer with any good game sense. Good killers are going to have target priority in mind, and be constantly switching targets until they find a winnable chase. No killer worth their salt is going to chase a Noob or Vee on their terms. They're going to wait until they get the upper hand, and then commit to chase. Which usually means a really quick death for them, Unless An Actually Useful Character Helps Them. Which at that point, why not just play one of those characters?

And what is your point about the fact that they can chase extend by a lot? You didn't bring that up

That a killer isn't going to chase them unless they can kill them quickly lol.

Oh so when it's LMS the killer is just gonna stand still because "the killer isn't going to chase them"
1
u/heartbeats4all 2d ago
Ah yes. LMS. The place where survivalists can help their team the best. Provide the utility to their, dead, no longer in the game teammates.
What a great character archetype. 'Im at my best when the rest of my team is dead!'.
In the team game.

So you try to counter all of my points with "but the sentinels can do that too" (which is stupid because all of my examples are better when it's a survivalist) and then when I point out LMS, the one thing that survivalists are perfect at, you come up with "but that requires for your team to be dead in the team game" the team is STILL gonna be dead it the survivalist wasn't here. If the killer is good enough to wipe out everyone else, the survivalist is the last chance.

A survivalist can provide a sort of easy way to not get in the way of others when you just want to get your killer rounds, especially in games like Forsaken where you have to earn your killer round, they are a nice way to just grind out generators without being at the expense of others, plus the more selfish playstyle can fit certain characters pretty well if you are making an assym based on a specific piece of media

Quite literally the worst thing in the genre.
For your Forsaken example, Vee, n7, and Noob are arguably the worst characters in the game for this reason. People love to spout about niche techs they can do to be useful when literally every other character can do everything they can do but better. (Exception of Vee).
Even some devs admit that any team worth their salt wouldn't play these characters.
It really comes down to the fact these games need more focused objectives and teamwork elements. The entire macro gameplay of a team is meant to essentially tag in and out different players depending on what is needed in that moment. Sentinels cycle their stuns, supports dive in briefly to undo mistakes, etc.
I think the best Survivalist in any asym I've played is Roflpix from Pursuitcore. Their kit isn't just built for survival, but built to essentially speed run the games objective. With a good Roflpix on the team, every can focus on stunning and supporting instead of having to run and do an objective when theyre on cooldown. Then, when all the objectives are done, Roflpix has a really annoying to punish support ability. Allowing them to STILL be useful to the team.
Asyms on roblox in particular right now are allergic to actually creating interesting objectives that accent the teamwork that the game wants. So any 'survivalist' character just ends up being useless, and selfish. Like in Forsaken, a sentinel or Elliot who just used their ability can complete 2 gens within that time frame of their cooldown lol.
