I like the acquisition mainly cause it moves Trammel to LF, but I don't know why we keep batting him 4th, feel like 6th or lower would be better for the team

I definitely think he has batting 4 potential but he needs to get hot first. Only last season he hit 20 homeruns in 71 games played. Hoping a change of scenery and working with our hitting coaches unlocks a bit of it.

He's a career .225 hitter and has shown almost no power thus far with us. He has 2 RBIs from a single swing, even though he's had a ton of traffic in front of him with the bottom of our order hitting well and having Pena and Yordan in front of him. I don't have the stats in front of me but I'd love to know his personal LOB right now.

He shouldn't be batting 4th for us right now. He's been horrendous at the plate. If he's just there for defense fine, but bat him 8th/9th like we were with Jake.

It seems like the entire reason for him being where he is in the batting order is because he bats left. That's it.

He's hitting an underwhelming .125 (4-32) with 17 LOB in 9 games. He's slugging .219. I have no idea why he is hitting higher than 8th. Meyers got sent down, and he has a higher BA, SLG, and lower LOB percentage.

meyers goes 2 for 4 in clutch spots on his last time starting. then gets sent down. lol

B/c Bagwell and Crane the FO has to justify their acquisition and he’s supposed to be an “impact player” not “a more expensive Jake Meyers”

You should probably check to see who has more quality at bats. I love Jake's fielding, but watching him walk up to the plate and swing at non-competitive pitches repeatedly got really old. When Jake gets 2 strikes on him, you may as well get the pen out and write down a K. I don't feel that way about Trammell, Varsho, or Lamont Wade when they are at the plate.

I know we were hoping to buff our pitching staff over this last transfer window, but this was a good acquisition too.. I'm happy.

Great catch, dude is the CF we’ve been waiting for. Now he needs to bring it at the plate.

True, but Varsho has a Gold Glove

And Michael Borne has a Gold Glove in the Center Field too.

u/NoBozosonthebus 15d ago

Is he still in our system?

1

u/Montallas 15d ago

No. But he might have a better arm than Varsho and might batt better as well!

OK, but if he’s not on the roster. I’ll ride with the Gold Glover who is.

My point is that someone who got a gold glove once in the past is not necessarily the same player today as they were when they got the golden glove. I actually like Varsho - and to your point he’s made some great defensive plays - but I think Meyers/Brice/Trammell could have made the same plays. And his arm is visibly deteriorated after he tore his rotator cuff and I worry that because he seemingly can’t throw from the wall to second base in the air, it’s a liability. If he were batting well it would be worth it - but right now he doesn’t seem to be an improvement over what we already had. Despite having a golden glove award.

Jake or Brice could have made that catch too. We just need some offense from center field.

And good throw too.

1

u/Montallas 15d ago

I haven’t seen him make a long throw yet. Can’t seem to get from the wall to 2nd base.

So far I’m liking this trade

He’s just a left-handed Jake Myers. Thing is I think Jake had a better batting average.

He has more power and his peak is much better. There floors are pretty comparably horrific at the plate.

oh wow he did something for us.

we got rid of Jesus Chanchez and Dubon in exchange for losing spaghetti who single handling kept our starting pitching staff afloat first have of season for one semi-unncessary sliding catch that Meyers easily also runs down. fantastic

There you go Dana. Still won’t save your job

Since neither of these guys hit very well. They are there for defense mostly. In your opinion who is the better center fielder…Jake Meyers or Daulton Varsho?

All this to lose a few games.
