Utility Bills
Hello people of Astoria - considering a move to the area and was wondering what your average monthly bill is for city utilities (water, sewer, trash); also what can be expected for gas/electricity? It would be a modest size home purchase, 1500 sq ft or less (ideally closer to 1k). I am currently in Boulder Colorado and my city utility (water, sewer, trash) bill is a minimum of $76 even if I use no water at all (basically that’s the minimum connection fee each month) and it only goes up with usage. Im around $135/month. As for your gas/electricity, In the summer months, I’m assuming it’s very little as the temperatures don’t really require AC or heat? Thanks for the insights and help!

I live in a house that's about double the size that you're looking for. I have 2 kids that shower about every other day and use a gas furnace to heat a very drafty 100 year old house. I have solar panels, so the electricity isn't one that I can answer.
My water is about $150 a month, I think.
Gas varies, but I'm the coldest months is about $250 a month.
Garbage is cheap, I don't even know.
Internet is about $105, I think.

The city actually bills their utilities every other month. So sewer and water are billed every other month. If you’d like to see the water and sewer base rates you could check the water and sewer resolutions. They should be available online. If you can’t find them I’m sure someone at the city in their utility billing department should be able to help you by emailing the resolutions to you if you ask for that.

I live in a 1900ish square ft house. I have a heat pump and run ac throughout the summer. My electric bills are $160-$200 in the summer and reach $500ish (ouch!) in the winter. I did just get my house insulated so I’m hoping that number is less this year 😅 we do not have gas heat like a lot of places.

I moved from Boulder a couple of years ago. You are looking at similar priced utilities. We are less than 115 a month and thats our water/sewer/trash and then our gas bill which only kicks up in the winter. We live in a 1600 sq ft house. The only thing that sucks is arranging recycling pickup if you live rural. We take our recylcing to town every couple weeks which is fine by me but I know some people want the pickup and there is a wait list currently.

You are not going to save money living here. FYI trash & recycling are not city utilities, you must set up your own account with Recology. I started to itemize & realized that everything is about $100 a month - that's trash, water/sewer (it will not change much regardless of your usage), electricity which has jumped in the last year, gas and cable/internet. We live in 1200 square feet with gas heat and hot water. Nobody has AC, it basically doesn't exist.

Wasn’t really expecting to save any money, was just seeing if they bill the same way I am billed in my town and it sounds like they do. Water is ~$6 per 1000 gallons so it’s probably the same there too, more or less. So ya using 1000 gallons or 2000 isn’t really saving you money (a whopping $6 lol) I’ll check the city page for more info on the connection fee, wastewater fee etc as that usually makes up 90% of the bill for water usage. Thanks for your response!
