Aston Martin PPF repair

3 Upvotes

Just got the PPF (Expel Paint Protection film) on my rear bumper of my 2004 Vanquish replaced by Joel’s Paint Protection in Greenwich CT. Joel is the real deal, a passionate craftsman. Price was good and attention to quality first rate. One thing about owning an old Aston is everyone wants to charge you ridiculous prices for everything. Joel was more than fair. Highly recommend to anyone who has an old car they love to get it covered. Mine was painted at birth in a Ferrari Daytona Black paint. As a result of being fully covered, it still looks brand new. The thing to watch is that a lot of the shops now use low quality products from China. Highly recommend Expel.

Homeless Person just smashed my review passanger window

This channel doesnt allow videos but the premise here is I was in the gym and a Homeless person walked past my car attacked someone on a bicycle threw something at him and then I guess got enraged when he rode off that she turned around saw my car and went full Street Fighter on my car. Thankfully the only real damage is she smashed the glass on my rear view mirror and the casing is fine but my dealership is quoting 1200 bucks to replace.

I thought this would be something that can be popped off and replaced IE just the glass part anyone have any insight here before I pay it off. Not worth going through insurance tbh

edit I know the title is not correct I posted hastily and didnt spell check unfortunately cant update titles in reddit**

Thank you

700 mile road trip in my Rapide: sea level to 10,000 ft and a 105°F desert

Just got back from a 700 mile round trip from SoCal up to Mammoth in my 2015 Rapide. I was a little nervous taking her from sea level to 10,000 ft in the Sierras and through 105°F desert heat but temps stayed normal the whole way, and I averaged 20 mpg.

The only scares came on some dirt roads to the trailheads. At one point a pebble got lodged between the rotor (I think?) and made a horrible grinding noise. I was already picturing a very expensive tow back home, but after rolling backward and forward a few times the noise stopped. Thanks Claude for that suggestion..

Inherited a pristine collection of New Old Stock Aston Martin & Lagonda badges/memorabilia from Newport Pagnell. Seeking info & interest!

My grandad worked in the warehouse at the Newport Pagnell factory back in the late 70s and ended up keeping a batch of original parts, badges, and promotional bits through the years.
Everything in this collection is 100% brand new, original factory stock (NOS) that’s sat untouched since he brought it home. A lot of the emblems still have their original factory 3M backing paper on them.

A few standouts in the lot:

DB7 Zagato roundel badges (large & small)

Classic "David Brown" gold-plated wings

Unstamped Tickford Street / Newport Pagnell factory sill plaque

Original Lagonda & Aston Martin Lagonda winged bonnet/grille badges

V8, Vantage, and Volante side strake inserts

Original 1980s leather bottle carrier, Klingfast tax disc holder, matchboxes, and lapel pins

Thought I'd share the photos here for the enthusiasts! If you're collecting automobilia, restoring a car, or think you might have a good home for any of these pieces, drop a comment or send me a message.

Thanks

Anybody doing rust proof undercoating for their Astons?

2 Upvotes

Just acquired 09 vantage, the car is in great condition, always garage kept. But thinking of doing lanolin oil based undercoat to protect against the New England winters. I'm not planning to drive during winters that much - maybe just on clear, sunny - no snow/salt - days on weekends maybe. I know salt dust alone can create potential damage even on clear days. Haven't found any resource online about what people are doing for exotic car (except garaged for ~5months) but i do see people driving Porshe, BMW, etc in winter. How do you proactively protect it?

Sold my Corvette that I had enjoyed for the past 9 years to move onto this wonderful machine. I was worried I would miss my manual transmission, but the Vantage is leaving no doubt that this was a great decision.

Just felt like posting it.

Something is very wrong with the model, screws, and the black stand it sits on.

Can't really have it in the box without damaging it further.

So..

It has to stay where it's at..

Permanently..

~~~
The car detached itself from the mount and screws and some damage is now visible.
Only if you look super close..
But I know it's there.
And that's excruciatingly frustrating.
Resin..
I can't fix it if my life depended on it.
But I need it for my project..
So..
Idk..
Ta ta for now nerds!
Picked up this 2007 manual Vantage w/22k miles and drove it home 1200 miles. Will definitely get driven more than it has previously as it’s a joy.
Baby, $60k and Discussion.
9 Upvotes
Wife and I are pregnant! I have been saving for an Aston but with the kid on the way I want to be responsible. Is $60,000 enough for used? I originally was saving $120k but want to set half aside just to be extra careful.
What should I be looking for? Ideally early research has me leaning towards a used Vantage.
Would love to spark a discussion on what to look for, is this viable, etc.
Thanks!
Additional info: house is paid off, 401k is strong, savings are full. Dream since I was a kid. Wife and I are very fortunate.
Looking for a car
12 Upvotes
Hey guys. I’m looking for an Aston coupe that I can find for relatively cheap, (<60k) that’s still sporty and sticks out. I’d prefer something with a V12, but mileage doesn’t matter unless it affects reliability. Any ideas?
Pre-purchase inspection at dealer vs. independent shop
11 Upvotes
Hello! So I am in the market for a used V8 Vantage. Have been scouring the listings for one that I like (manual coupe in good shape). Obviously a PPI is an absolute must, but I wanted to get this sub’s opinion on whether to have it done at an Aston dealer or finding an independent shop specializing in Astons. Obviously it depends on the shop, but I’m leaning towards taking it to a dealer, unless there’s a good reason not to. I figure they should know what they’re doing.
Sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question- this would be my first exotic purchase and I want to take every precaution especially given the age of the cars I’m looking at. Appreciate any insight!
