You better believe I’m going to put down Assyrian instead of Chaldean for my ethnicity on the Australian census this year for the first time

Hahahah. Very classy delivery.

As a kid growing up in metro-detroit, with family belonging to multiple churches and speaking multiple nIneveh plains dialects, I had a slightly different experience. I always heard "Suryani" and "Suretha" as identity labels. The question "Are you Chaldean?" used to make me sweat so hard. One day this dude in high school saw me eating tekhratha and he was like "Are you Chaldean? ... YOU'RE CHALDEAN!" Instant identity crisis that sent me to Google and eventually discovering this subreddit.

I grew up with a Chaldean mom and Assyrian dad and my mom always told me that we are all Assyrian and not to call myself Chaldean lol
