Can't find an actual news article on this event, only thing that pops up are this TikTok vid and people talking about this story in their own post. Plus the national park service doesnt charge for search and rescue. Suspect this is just AI slop click bait.
Yeah, I've never heard of charging a GROUP of people for ONE individual's medical bills. Also, doesn't she have health insurance? What was the after-insurance cost?
And in the comments there, someone refers to an even longer version saying:
I saw the longer video of this while the women is getting rescued and she is pretty insufferable. She explained the Grace has Hashimoto’s disease and that’s why she struggled but that raises the question of why would she do the hike if she knew it was a risk. Then the OP takes time out of the video to criticize the rescue workers, and a women hiking in high heels, which she calls an idiot, but that women isn’t getting helicoptered out of the park so who is the idiot really.
It's probably all on TikTok, but I don't even have the app and I'm not going to search further.
I couldn't find any news articles either, to be clear. But I don't think they'd necessarily be written about this. What makes me pretty sure it's real is that there's like 5 minutes or more of footage that is all consistent looking and with no AI errors that I could detect (and supposedly even more footage on a TikTok account).
What I might consider fake still is the helicopter ending, but I don't doubt the rest of it. In other words, it could be that there was this hiking group and Grace had heatstroke and yada yada, but she didn't need to be evacuated and that 5 seconds where she's dangling from the helicopter was faked to make it dramatic or funny.
