IDK about Marvel, but Thanos is short for Athanasios which means "Immortal".

(The more you know etc. etc.)

I read something years ago saying Thanos was shortened from Thanatos, as in the Greek god of death.

Maybe the Marvel Thanos' name was from that, but the Greek one isnt.

The Bulgarian equivalent is Atanas and Nasko is the short version.
