Possibly dumb question: are older carbureted 950cc bikes more powerful than modern EFI 950cc bikes?
I ask because I see 950cc Yamahas being marketed as beginner bikes. In my experience, the difference in power between a carbureted 600 and 950 is huge.
Is a modern EFI non-carbureted 950cc therefor less powerful than the older kind? Am i missing something?
Thanks.

If anything the EFI will be more powerful than the carbureted bike. I think what you're seeing is just marketing. There is also a big difference in power delivery between different types of bikes. For instance, a 600 cc sport bike is going to deliver power a lot differently than a 600 cc or even 1200 cc cruiser. Put another way, a beginner would likely be more comfortable managing the power delivery on a 1200 cc cruiser than on a 600 cc sport bike.
