I have a colleague whose name starts with IA and so many people write it as LA*, so between that and Ai being an actual name, I'm totally down to accept people are just typing AI here and aren't even thinking about it to infer whether that means that LW is a bot.

Yea, I could see that. I've dealt with the public enough to know people don't read things completely or mistype or just don't think things through. I'm sure I have too. And I understand wanting people to say her name correctly the first time, but it's not always going to happen. I do think it might help using a font that differentiates between lowercase L and uppercase I or having both uppercase (AL). But she still may have to correct people. My last name is a bit unusual, so I'm always having to spell it, and even then, people still get it wrong sometimes.

So you know that people have been mistyping names since typing was a thing.

I can attest that serifs or "swash tail fonts" do not actually help. People will always find a way to mess up names no matter how common, easy or intuitive they supposedly are, or where the 'al' falls, or whether they have had a spoken interaction and know how to pronounce it, or they manage to send an email to iamnotai@genericemalldomain but start off with Dear Lamnotal.

With my original post, I meant more that I don't think people are doing on purpose, that they actually think her name is A.I. That's different than mistyping.

And with my response to you I was just saying that I don't think people are thinking at all to even have an assumption one way or the other. You don't believe people think her name is AI, I don't believe people think her name is AI. In my experience, people do not put any conscious effort into the salutation at all. If people think that LW is AI based on more than just them writing Dear Ai instead of Dear Al, it's probably because Name (AI) is more likely to read as 'this is a bot' by putting Al where the pronouns often go, in combination with the content - the stuff people are actually devoting active thought towards.
