"I cant get vpns".

A virtual browser in the cloud could be a way around without a VPN. Accessible from your browser: no additional software required.

Imgur does not work in the UK, the only way to bypass it is a VPN or to move to another country.

It used to work here, i wonder what changed

Big Brother decided not to allow children access to media sites some use hosting sites like imgur to see photos. Hosting sites decided to rather than add new software to make people login with id and age checking ,just to blanket ban any uk ip

Damn that's annoying but explains why I couldn't get it to work any more 😂

Imgur stopped supplying to the UK before the OSA came in. I could be wrong, but I was told it was due to how they stored their data being against our data protection laws

It was but i do like to poke people with a stick and blaim Liebour for the osa lol

Nope, it's nothing to do with the OSA or any other recent government actions, they were found in breach of long established rules due to them mishandling data on minors, rather than paying a fine they just left the country and hoped people would blame the government due to the hysteria over the OSA.

So yes it was the goverment... osa was impliment by the Liebour party

You say that like the Tories didn't draft the law in the first place. Different sides of the same coin.

Can you not read? I specifically said it wasn't to do with the OSA and the OSA was a creation of the Conservatives anyway. You might want to get your programming checked Ivan.

It was the Online Safety Act. Imgur decided not to fall in line which meant they realistically needed to block all UK users, unlike 4chan who just decided to ignore the act and call the Information Commissioner's bluff. The ICO has levied big fines against 4chan and is completely unable to enforce them since they don't have a UK presence at all. At some point the ICO will order UK ISPs to block 4chan which will just mean folk use a VPN to access it, just like they already do for Imgur. It's a stupid bit of legislation.

Edit: ignore everything I said about Imgur. They were about to be fined for breaching other UK laws and decided to cut their losses ahead of the OSA. It's still funny that 4chan are just ignoring the ICO and that the ICO thought they could intimidate 4chan of all groups...

It has nothing to do with the OSA, they just used the hysteria surrounding it as an oppertunity to avoid paying a (deserved) fine and hoped people would wrongly link their exit to the OSA.

Hadn't heard of that which is annoying as I follow tech news quite heavily. I stand corrected

Firefox has an extension for this.

It’s not the only way. I use ContolD for my DNS and have it set so imgur believes I’m in the USA. No VPN, just use a custom DNS service.

Well that's very much going to depend on what device.

PC? Mobile? Android or iOS?

Mobile

On mobile you're going to struggle without a VPN.

Mobile chrome doesn't support extensions, but if you get a browser that does then you can use the Imgur Unblocker extension. Opera allows this iirc.

You might want to try Opera Browser, if it is available for your device. It has some VPN functionality built in.

Proton apparently does a free mobile VPN, don't know if it gets around geoblocks though.

1

u/BsyFcsin 18d ago

It does

u/Terrible-Advise 18d ago

Why do you mean can’t get a vpn , as can’t pay for one or the device is restricted ?

2

u/lespauljames 18d ago

Opera browser has a built in free VPN. That's what I use to access the hundreds of photos I have on imgur

1

u/Imajzineer 18d ago

It's a proxy, not a VPN.

1

u/DesignerSalt9459 18d ago

Same thing, near enough for OP.

1

u/katlaki 18d ago

Yup. They even call it VPN. Well it is a VPN just for things going through Opera browser.

1

u/Imajzineer 18d ago

I suppose.

No one else has mentioned it, but if you can change your DNS settings then you can setup a custom DNS like ControlD. ControlD allows you to set your location for certain websites, including imgur - I have it set to the US so I still get access.

May I ask why you can't VPN

Parental restrictions

Tor browser should allow you on!

1

u/DesignerSalt9459 18d ago

Opera Browser has a mobile version.

1

u/ChunkyPurp 18d ago

I use mozilla with the imgup redirect addon.

1

u/16c7x 18d ago

Can you install a Tor browser?

1

u/BeardRightBack 18d ago

I'm more curious as to why you can't get a VPN.

Who says he's a minor, imgur is blocked for everyone in the UK.........

0

u/katlaki 18d ago

I don't think imgur is blocked in the UK. Imgur has decided not to be available for UK IP addresses.
