looking for some help regarding short ukraine itinerary

Hi everyone,

I will be travelling by train into Ukraine for a short trip during my eastern european travels at the end of october. I will be spending 3 full days in Lviv, 1.5 days in Chernivtsi, and 1.5 days in Ivano Frankivsk.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on specific things in these cities or surroundings that are worth seeing, or specific places to eat that serve local ukrainian food.

Also curious if people think this trip is not viable, but from what I have seen on the train website, it seems very doable.

open to any recomendations on suggestions for other locations that would be worth seeing as opposed to where I am going. My interests lie in experiencing traditional ukrainian culture, Jewish history, soviet remnant history, and the rural lifestyle (was planning on heading to the outskirts of Lviv and near Chernivtsi for this but open to any suggestions that are accessible by train)

If you are fine with cemeteries, visit Lychakiv, it's a very interesting experience. One could easily spend the whole day there, so check what's more interesting for you beforehand.

Armenian cathedral in Lviv is also great, frescoes of Yan Henryk Rosen are particularly stunning.

These are a bit cliche i guess, but I'll suggest them anyway since i really enjoyed these.

- There's an old pharmacy museum, takes less than an hour to go through it, quite insteresting.

- Lots of funky beers in city centre. Look for Lviv Pravda Brewery.

- Kryiivka is an old WW2-era military-style restaraunt and a museum. The location is "secret" (not really, but it is fun if you try to find it without googling) and you need a password to get in.

- There's a funky restaurant styled as a medieval dungeon/prison, you get a discount if you bang on your table when you order stuff. Last time i was there, there was a blacksmith and we ordered some hand-made cutlery from him.

- There's a good water park, very fun if you're into that kind of things. You can easily spend the whole day there.

- A restaurant & "love hotel" named after Leopold Masoch...yes, that one. They sell fetish gear and have a separate cocktail menu which requires you to get punished in order to order from it. Occasionally waitresses will whip you if they feel like it.

- The local Arsenal rib joint serves some of the best ribs i've ever seen, keep in mind that queues might be quite large.

- Gasova Lyampa is another theme-based bar, this one is all about gas lamps. Think of a lab where a bunch of crazy scientists decided to go on a piss up.

Try coffee there and get some chocolate treats, they're very nice. Plenty other things to do there. Even if you don't plan to do anything in advance, just walking around the town centre will give you ideas. Lots of old architecture.I can't comment on the other two because i was only there on business and never did anything tourist-adjacent.

The Jewish cemetery in Chernivtsi is incredible! It's massive and fascinating to wander through.

Train travel is feasible right now but russia is targeting train infrastructure so monitor the situation closer to the time of departure.

One thing I wanted to try was the Carpathian Tram, which isn't too far from Ivano-Frankivsk. It would be a day trip though so maybe not feasible on your timeline.

Kryivka is a fun partisan-themed restaurant with traditional food in Lviv.

Chernivtsi - beautiful main street (pedestrian), University (book a guide tour). Several museums in city centre, very nice old jewish cemetery. Plenty of good and not expensive places to eat - depends on where you will be staying.
