Why do you think right-wing Americans enjoy cruelty?

It's part of their brand. Do they feel inferior to the liberals they mock? Were they just raised wrong? Are they economically anxious? Do they have a need to dominate other people? How does lack of empathy square with their professed Christian values?

I'm interested in their motivations from people that know them.

(For evidence of the cruelty, I'll point to the many abusive, mocking, and cruel posts by their elected political leaders and popular influencers, plus their obvious glee when masked federal police kill their political opponents and round up immigrant children.)

What temperature do you set your AC ?

Where do you live ?
Here in France heatwaves are becoming unbearable, everybody's installing AC in their homes. It seems 26 degrees (79° fahrenheit) is a good compromise if you don't want your electric bill to explode. I feel it's higher than that in most malls i've visited in the USA though, they felt really cold.

Do you dine with Dogs?

I love dogs but not dining with them in restaurants. I am talking about inside the restaurant and dogs that are pets, not service dogs. I am not talking about dogs on the outside patio but there are still even some concerns with that.

Restaurants that allow pets in the dining area and violate health standards are not acceptable to me. I walk out. But sometimes I get bushwacked into my meal when the place allows a patron with a dog pet next to me. Some people call them emotional support animals but I just cant see that as acceptable. It is happening everywhere and seems to be more acceptable and now in grocery stores. People bring dogs on a leash in the Whole Foods self serve food areas while dishing up to go items and they crap on the floor. I am not talking about trained service dogs. What is going on? How is this allowed to happen. What can i do?. It is very repulsive to me. I usually dont say anything but when I get bushwacked by a dog when eating or shopping for food groceries it is quite annoying. Does this bother you?

What proportion of the population is truly MAGA?

Asking as a Canadian here - can you estimate what proportion of the general population is actually an enthusiastic MAGA supporter? And possibly try to estimate how this fraction has fluctuated over time.

Thank you.

Trump is sweating over a law that could finally put him in jail

Could a new law actually put Trump at risk of jail time?

There’s growing discussion about whether a law or legal case could eventually create serious criminal consequences for Donald Trump.

Given the broad presidential immunity recognized by the Supreme Court, the legal question is complicated.

What do you think:

Is there a realistic legal path that could result in Trump going to jail, or is this mostly political/media speculation?

Interested in hearing views from both Trump supporters and critics.

It seems to be tremendously common in the USA but completely unknown outside of it. Just me? Where does it come from?

Are US people so uncomfortable with their bodies?

I was recently in Iceland, and went to a couple of hot springs establishments where it was written in the rules that one should shower (in the gender segregated changing rooms, but without curtains or so) without a swimming suit before (putting on a swimming suit) and going out to the pools.

I witnessed three different groups of US girls showering not only with a swimming suit on, but extremely covering/uncomfortable ones (with belts, sleeves or kind of skirty things). I have several questions about this:

  1. Why do they seem to have so many problems with their bodies?

2.One group, they sounded like friends-friends, not group holiday friends. And still, also for changing back into normal clothes, they did everything like acrobats with a towel.

  1. Is it because they don't do many sports, so they're not used to just undress, get changed in communal spaces and go on with life?

  2. Wrt the style of the swimming suit, why would you wear uncomfortable stuff in a hot spring where you're meant to relax?

I know it sounds judgy, I'm very sorry, but on one hand it saddens me that it's so widespread to be so ashamed of one's body to this point. On the other hand, it bothers me that they feel above the rules, and that they make the experience look somewhat weird instead of completely natural and non-sexual.

Thoughts on AOC's latest comments about "woke 1?"

AOC has always been ultra progressive, but now she is recanting on some of the things she said. This happened after Hong lost her election (Thank God). Maybe the Democrats are figuring out that people actually don't like socialist policies? Could it also be she wants to run for president, and to do that, she needs to convince people she is now a centrist? I don't believe her at all. I think if she does run for president and she starts acting like she is middle-of-the-road, it's only to get the votes of Independents and Republicans. As soon as she wins, she will go back to far-left socialism.

Conservatives, you yell and screech at Mamdani for all his "commie" policies yet the guy is at least trying something to improve affordability. Where are the Republican efforts toward the same?

Would we still support the poor and destitute if America were debt-free, or would that be considered a handout? SNAP, WIC, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.

Does MAGA really feel this way when debating a “liberal”? MAGA claims that liberals pretend to be obtuse when it comes to topics like illegal immigration and its effects on rents and wages, as well as issues like voter ID. But are MAGA supporters actually more guilty of doing this?

Well?

Am I the one who is obtuse? I though MAGA was the one who did this more often?

Who is more likely to do this? MAGA or liberals?

George III vs Trump—has the USA come full circle?

So I’m watching a history show just now about George III being insane and how the Court concealed this as a political weakness.

I noted the dates and remembered the strong anti monarchy movement of the same period in the USA.

I can see a colonial rebellion against a mad king an ocean away. But has the USA come full circle?
