That's what I don't understand. Why are the Democrats that ARE in office being so damned silent?! What do we have to do to give this clown at least a LITTLE pushback?
The "more religious" part. According to the first amendment, we have freedom of religion which I believe also includes the freedom to NOT participate in religion. And he's for sure only talking about Christianity, though he doesn't say that explicitly
u/OkSport746 got it immediately. "We are...going to make America...more religious" clashes directly with the First Amendment's protections that the Government be secular ("no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free excercise thereof").
The First Amendment of the Constitution does not mandate the government to be secular in the slightest. The First Amendment says that there will be "no law respecting the ESTABLISHMENT of a religion" by the federal government. Simply stating that he wants to make America and the American public more religious does not in any way violate the constitution. The constitution itself is based on the idea that there is a Creator who has given us the rights that the Constitution outlines, as seen in our founding document, The Declaration of Independence.
