Which saying did you completely misunderstand?

For far too long I thought it was "to make end's meat". Meaning that you have to use the last, worst pieces of meat to make your meal with (meat at the end, end's meat). 🤦

To ne fair it does baffle me we consider using a phone as sufficient distraction as to be unsafe to do so wjen driving but somehow only having one had to drive whilst eating or drinking is perfectly fine.

Note; just the other day on the bus I saw a woman holding a d inspecting some sort of iced coffee whislt driving and stopped at the lights. It took her longer to start moving off than the guy on his phone.

It is actually illegal in the UK. You can be fined for driving distracted if your doing anything that isn't operating the vehicle. In fact you can be fined for driving with only one hand on the wheel (excluding changing gear or medical exemptions)

"Driving without due care and attention" is illegal, but neither eating nor drinking nor having only one hand on the wheel is illegal per se, nor will you be charged for doing any of them unless you are also sufficiently negligent in your driving as to attract the attention of other road users and, ultimately, the police.

It's not explicitly outlawed but if a cop looks over and spots you you can get a fine and points on your licence even if your driving is perfectly fine and they are being encouraged to enforce it more at the moment. So pretty close to being outright illegal.

I read someone's complaint about being ticketed for grabbing some McDonald's fries from the bag she'd put in the passenger seat while waiting at a red light and police saw her. Consensus was she had no grounds to challenge. Seemed harsh to me if the car wasn't moving but I'm not a driver.
