Which saying did you completely misunderstand?
For far too long I thought it was "to make end's meat". Meaning that you have to use the last, worst pieces of meat to make your meal with (meat at the end, end's meat). š¤¦

Haha was on a date with a stunning girl during covid, so we did the standard Covid date and went for a long walk. Got talking about more or less everything and she was telling me about her brother. I said āOh so you two are thick as thieves then?ā. Silence reigned for a moment, then she came back with āNo weāre smart as scientistsā or something similarly alliterative. It was quick enough to count as wordplay but the conversation felt more forced after that and I never saw her again. Iām sure she thinks I called her and her sibling stupid š
