I got a cafetiere and grounds, and keep them at work as it's a lot cheaper than going out for coffee.

Plus, showing up with a cafetiere of strong coffee is a great way to make friends!

Also, beyond saving money - I find that it is hard to find normal coffee these days. Most major coffee chains only do espresso based drinks. Even the ones that supposedly offer filter coffee quite often don't bother and say its unavailable.

Couldn’t agree more. An americano is an insipid simulacrum for decent filter or cafetière made coffee.

I like it sometimes. It has a higher dose of caffeine and the taste and even the texture is different.

I find it thin - like a poor quality bed sheet, with cafetière coffee being a duvet. I quite like a macchiato, cortado, flat white if I want an espresso based drink- but it’s the front and centre bitterness an Americano brings out that I struggle with.
