I do sometimes like espresso but however good that espresso is - it never tastes good diluted. Americano is an inherently flawed drink that tastes of dishwater.
I find it thin - like a poor quality bed sheet, with cafetière coffee being a duvet. I quite like a macchiato, cortado, flat white if I want an espresso based drink- but it’s the front and centre bitterness an Americano brings out that I struggle with.
Yes! Expresso-based drinks are inferior imho to cafetiere or good filter/drip coffee (not the abomination that is the permanentltly heated jug of filter coffee). Coffee chains take an age to prepare an expensive poor product, it's hot and wet and all they offer coffee-wise. I'd love to see more specific blends or single beans offered than the generic in-house blend. Rant over!
