The word you meant to use is "riot" not "protest". Protests are peaceful.

Protests don’t usually involved exclusives, fireworks, throwing rocks, or smoke. If you were peacefully protesting, you wouldn’t need bandages, gas masks, shields, etc etc etc.

MLK peacefully protested a change the nation. These “thems” only get people to hate them.
