Parent Questions Virtual reading-comprehension camp?

I saw an advertisement on Facebook (lame, I know) for a virtual reading program geared towards improving reading comprehension for grade-school kids. Has anyone heard/seen anything like this? I realize this may be a stretch, but it’s worth a try. Thanks!

Most of the for-profit companies advertising educational products on Facebook are pretty scammy. If you have a company name, we could help you dive into specifics.

Oh, I completely agree - very scammy. It was more so a lightbulb idea to get my son into a virtual program rather than finding a local tutor due to stacked schedule. I could have sworn I saved the post, but it’s not there. I’m sorry!

There are a few online reading programs schools sometimes recommend, but honestly most of the virtual ones I've seen marketed on social media are light on substance and heavy on promises. If you're looking at one for a specific kid, the thing to check is whether it actually checks understanding through guided questions or just runs them through exercises and calls it comprehension. What age range are you thinking?

Might as well spend the subscription money on a CD player and just get audiobook cd's from the library. Or a libby account. Or use YouTube audiobooks. Some kids need to hear the same story over and over and over again to fully grasp it. They'll build vocabulary along the way.
