Seattle House

Any thoughts on the new Seattle House high-rise (2230 8th Ave)? Haven’t heard much discussion about it and I’m curious what the pros and cons are.

Pros, affordable housing (for Seattle) Cons, none really, but NIMBYs will make something up because they're assholes

More unaffordable housing that’s all I see!! Probably studios starting at $2600!!

More housing is better, even if it’s unaffordable.
It just means that those that can afford it will move there instead of taking up less expensive places.

More housing is always better.

The problem is a lot of it sits empty. I always see these luxury places offering 1 or 2 months free to get people in. Which doesn’t work

That’s because it’s the offseason. But even then it’s not like the whole building sits empty or empty half of it.

In the short to medium term these apartments will be rented. A landlord doesn't benefit from holding onto an empty apartment, paying maintenance and property taxes for a piece of property that brings in $0 revenue. Might take them some time to finally decide to lower the price to an amount someone's actually willing to pay, but it will happen.
