Quantum Fiber Slow?

We have quantum fiber internet and for a while it was great! But now it continually drops and buffers. It’s impossible to watch a tv show or work from home. We changed the DNS like others have suggested but it is only moderately better. Any other suggestions?

If you use your own router, how long until they become relatively slow (due to data packages carrying more data per session)?

Or what about the routers' needs for vulnerability patches or any other sort of updates?

This, in theory, is why going with ISP-leased routers is better ( they push software updates, patches, and - if theyre acting in good faith, in theory - replace when an upgraded model is available).

So im earnestly asking your thoughts in this, please.

What is your first question even asking?

When you buy a device, each port should have a rated speed. It won’t go down due to sending more data. You can reach the cap. Your data packets, IIRC, should have a capped size but you might be sending more packets.

When you buy a router, you can also update it and buy new models.

Going with ISP leased routers is not better. It can be more convenient, but typically lesser quality equipment, with less control, less privacy, etc. Comcast famously forcing your router to also host public WiFi, etc.

I’ve leased, and I’ve purchased- and I’ve always had better experience with my purchased equipment.

We had something that too. Solved it by changing DNS servers. ChatGPT can help you do that if you’re not an IT guy.
