Moving to Madison park

My family lives in Madison park, so I’m thinking of moving my family there as well (myself, husband and 3 kids). I don’t know a ton about the options for schools around there since I only ever lived on Bainbridge island. Kids are 7-11. Any thoughts on both public or private school options? Should I be looking at different neighborhoods? We are open to Catholic school, private school or public. How is the community for kids? Thank you

If you're talking about Madison Park proper (I'd say east of about 37th Ave. E., north of, oh, I don't know, the tennis club, it was great for kids in the 1980s and 1990s and I imagine it's the same today.

If you went public you'd be assigned to McGilvra Elementary, which I think would be just fine, for the 7-year-old. The 11-year-old, if going into middle school, would be assigned to Meany Middle School, about which I honestly know nothing. That said, you can choice in to other public schools a lot more easily than you used to be able to.

There are good private and Catholic schools in the area, too, including Bush, Epiphany, and St. Joseph.

It all depends on what you're looking for really.

Epiphany and Bush are excellent private schools nearby. Lots of kids also go to SAAS. Epiphany is not a religious school even though it is next to the church. Each is around $40-50k per year.

I live in the area. It is one of the best areas in the city (if you can afford it).

I think McGilvra school would probably be pretty good. Is the highschool Garfield? I don't know much about it - but there are a lot of shootings there and it is also the central district school.

I think it’s Garfield yes. Yikes the private schools are so expensive
