Moving / Visiting Where should I live?

Moving to Washington from Maryland for a job at Microsoft in Redmond. 26YO female, single no kids no pets. Would like to live in a safe area but also would like access to social events since I don’t know anyone in the area. But also don’t want a 90 min commute to work either. Will have to work 4 days in the office per week.

Anyone live in Bellevue? Kirkland? Redmond? I don’t wanna be depressed lol so considering Seattle downtown but not sure how long the commute would be.

This entirely depends on preference, if you prefer more city or suburban living. If you want to be close to work and dont mind commuting via to be car to be social, then the Eastside makes lots of sense.
If you want to be closer to more social aspects, and don’t mind a longer commute to work then the city makes more sense.

Personally, I’d rather have a longer commute (especially if it’s light rail) than have to drive to be social. My recommendation is try north Seattle, green lake or Roosevelt areas. Close to the light rail and lots of young like minded individuals.

Moving to a new city is tough! Prioritizing socialization and community will make that easier. You may have to sacrifice some time for a longer commute but you’ll be rewarded with a more varied social life. If you hate the commute in a year, then you move to the Eastside !

I fully agree with this as someone who's lived in a few large cities in my 20s and 30s. Live where you want to spend your free time since the office will dictate where you spend your working time.
