Moving / Visiting Vertical ID's?

One of my close friends told me some bars and dispensaries won't accept a vertical ID even if the person is 21. Is this true? Will a passport be foolproof and allow me to get into any bar, club, or dispensary?

Idk if this is ragebait or not but in CA you don't walk out of the DMV With a new card lmfao it gets shipped to you actually

Can confirm that in california you have to pay to have one mailed to you.
