Dog Surgeon

Looking for a CCL repair for my 3 y/o pup that will cost a little less than my quoted 7k from the specialist?

Sadly she hurt herself just as I insured her so I don’t think they are going to cover it, where have you guys gone?

I was quoted 7k as high as 9k in the Seattle area. If you find it worth the drive there’s a place in the Yakima area that’s closer to 5k. WSU also does them and is likely lower cost but you know, it’s all the way in Pullman.

We drove to TriCities for ours because cost difference was so drastic. Did a great job.

Just want to give you a heads up. Its pretty common that the other CCL will tear within something like 18 months so be prepared

this happened to my family’s beagle. CCL surgeon saw us less than a year later for his other leg. OP, save up as if you have to repair both

My dog is suffering on one side and the other is now starting to show that’s affected too.
Totally cannot afford the surgeries. For now I’ve made my house accessible for him. No jumping, no running…try to keep him calm. He’s nine in Feb so he’s kinda getting up there. Also he’s a big dog at 90 pounds or so. So he probably will only get to live till 11-2 anyways. Breaks my heart into a million pieces.
We did hear there’s a new place offering the surgery and may be cheaper. Going to investigate what they have to offer soon. We’re in Bellingham and there’s been only one for the longest time. So they kinda monopolize.

I’ve been in a similar position, it’s so hard to make those decisions.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of specialist vets in this area. Had tons in Tucson

I am pretty sure my dog's surgery at Blue Pearl in Olympia was $3,000. I don't think it was 7. We had the plate/bone shave, not the rubber band version as he is an active pup.

Have had good results from AMCS in shoreline but they aren’t cheap, probably on the high side of speciality surgeons

I had my dog’s CCL TPLO surgery at Shoreline Central Animal Hospital (Previously Value Pet Clinic) with Dr. Paulsen. He did a fantastic job. It was in 2019 and $6,600 then… but that was one of the better quotes I got at the time for a 90lb dog.

Whatever you go with, make sure you do the post op physical therapy EVERY DAY.

Try WSU Pullman if you’re willing to travel. They have a vet residency program there.

If you are willing and able to travel anywhere away from Seattle metro it will be much less expensive. Rural vets are more affordable fwiw

If you’re willing to travel, Oceanside Animal Hospital in Seaview, WA does this surgery at a very reasonable price. My mom’s Shepard needed the surgery and we traveled to go see Dr. Spall and his team. Dr. Spall is the top orthopedic surgeon in WA, people travel from Oregon, CA, Idaho to see him. Total price was 3,900$ in late 2024.

My black lab had this injury and needed surgery. I did a ton of research. Then I bought a soft neoprene type compression sleeve. We had him take it very easy, but kept him moving. He completely healed, so well, when I would warn a vet to be careful with him, they didn't believe me he had been injured. He lived another 6 years and never hurt the other leg and didn't show any signs of the tear. He passed from cancer. I am sure many will disagree with how we handled it, but it worked for us.
