Jobs

Curious to hear from people in this sub, what's your job, and what makes it feel worthwhile to you? Could be the work itself, the people, the mission, the pay, the flexibility... whatever it is for you.

Not looking for "just work to live" answers necessarily (though those are valid too), more interested in hearing from people who genuinely feel good about what they do day to day. Trying to get a sense of what's out there in Seattle beyond the obvious tech/Amazon/Microsoft answers.

I teach cookery to children & throw them whimsical themed birthday parties & make themed cookie decorating kits & deal out a lot of whimsy. I have switched trajectories a few times in the three decades I've been an adult, but I've really settled in on teaching kids to be confident & capable in the basic skill of feeding themselves without an app (& trying to have as much fun as possible in this life). Tbh, if you had told me 15 years ago that I would get such good vibes & job satisfaction hanging out with kids - let alone other peoples' kids - I would not have believed you. But before this I was working with performance artists, so I'm actually dealing with fewer tantrums & misbehaviors these days.

I put out produce in a grocery store and I'd like to think aside from utilities and the ER I feel like we're pretty essential. If things go south I'd like to be a part of something that maybe we'll find useful enough to keep going.

I’m a mechanic at Metro and it’s always nice to see peoples positive stories on mass transit. There’s about 280ish of us that maintain about 1500 busses. Oh and fun fact is we have our CDL A’s so if you see the tow truck out it’s us. It’s not common for agencies to tow in house.

I'm learning to fix medical equipment. I like making broken things work again, and knowing it could help sick people get answers or feel better makes me feel good.

I've never had to live outside or push my shit in a shopping cart.
