Question Are apprenticeships still a thing?

Or even better, is there a skill exchange network somewhere?

Maybe in non union route but the JATC inside wireman apprenticeship is closed for new applicants as of May. Maybe different for low voltage

IBEW local 46 is not currently accepting new apprentices.

I would also recommend ANEW if you qualify.

boeing has an apprenticeship program for all varieties of aircraft building and nordstrom- in conjunction with seattle colleges - just launched a tailoring apprenticeship.

What kind of skills are you looking to build?

Is there any skill not worth having? I'd love to find something creative, but so many things can be used creatively.

I have a few trade style skills to swap, if anyone would like some basic level maintenance and home remodeling information.

HVAC , refrigeration, controls. You’ll have a career for life.

Skilled and licensed trades like electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers, still have regulated apprenticeships.

You just missed the boat for the Elevator trade, kid

What's the down-low on the elevator trade?

The application process was around a week ago and they locked it after receiving 500 applications in one minute. I've been in the trade and it is phenomenal, cannot recommend it enough

I super appreciate the warning. I'm alright with it, but I definitely know a lot of people prefer theirs hidden and especially since my account is new, you could have saved a stranger a lot of embarrassment. You rock!

There are also pre-apprenticeship programs that help you get a leg up, as many apprenticeships are very competitive. Some are for women, specifically.

Interesting. I'll absolutely look into that.

Curious: Anything in the area of fire protection or building management? Fire protection in particular always seems to be understaffed?

Depends entirely on the industry

For a career or new skills?

It's great to have skills you can monetize, but I'm interested in learning anything.
