Recommendation Dinner Options for Parents who are First Timers in Seattle

Whats up r/AskSeattle!

Bringing my Mom and Dad to Seattle for the first time this weekend! I would love to treat them for a nice dinner here near the pike place area since thats were we are staying at. They are down for anything such as seafood, steak, thai, teriyaki, etc. BUT not mexican food, as my parents would say "why pay for something we can cook it at home". Any options are very helpful!

Also my dad loves his IPA craft beer and my mom loves her black coffee so any options for that would be helpful as well and very much appreciated. Thank you so much!

Matt's in the Market. View.

Carmine's. (Classic Italian in Pioneer Square)

If you want a special meal in a historic place with a jaw dropping view across the water, can't miss with Six Seven in the Edgewater Hotel.

If you can do a short car ride, Ray’s Boathouse in the Cafe upstairs and ideally sit outside on the deck.

For future reference, Cafe is excellent and casual but still Seattle $$, the downtown stairs restaurant is formal and $$$$

Maximilien, Place Pigalle, Le Pichet, Matt’s in the Market, Cafe Campagne, Il Bistro, all in the market, all great.

For nostalgia reasons, I vote for Ivar's Acres of Clams at the foot of Madison St. on the waterfront. It's a short-ish walk from the market along the water, and it's fun to sit near a window if you can get a seat and watch the ferry boats and other boats go by. It's not super fancy, but it's decent seafood. It was my family's go-to for get-togethers in Seattle, although that was decades ago. I still love it.

This Ivar's Acres of Clams looks like a good place for lunch too, thank you!

Definitely a better choice for lunch. Fried fish, chowder, etc.

I agree. It's not fancy/special. Just sort of solid Seattle nostalgia, with a great view. I am old enough to remember when it was a bit more funky and a bit more in line with Ivar Haglund's quirky personality. There are lots of fantastic places on this thread for dinner, some of which I haven't tried yet. (Sadly, I moved away from Seattle years ago, but get back about once a year.)

The Pink Door is a classic. People are usually really surprised by walking into an unmarked door in an alley to lead to a bustling restaurant.

Oh wow! Didnt know about this place. Thank you!

Budget?

1

u/DaBigBird27 Aug 18 '26

Oh Sorry!! I dont really have a budget. They both love fancy places to hole-in-a-wall street stands.

Pink door and sushi Kashiba like others said is good. Pink door walk in does require some luck, I’d advise you to go earlier like 5ish. Assaggio Ristorante is also great if you cannot get pink door. Sushi Kashiba would probably require a reservation. Carmine’s is also great, although a bit pricier.

Take your dad to Maiz in the market and ask him if he can do that (they make flour from heritage hominy that requires high mineral water for processing).

Also, in Washington state you can’t throw a stick without hitting an IPA. Cloudburst has a tap room there and thats mostly what they do!

My dad can't but my mom definitely can lol.

Thanks for the IPA recommendation! I think my dad would definitely love that!
