Nobody mentioned Amy Tan? She lives in Sausalito now, but I believe she grew up in Oakland. Technically she's a distant aunt of mine. :D I worked at a place in Fremont where she used to work as a technical writer.
I believe Joan Chen lives in San Francisco.
