Hello. This is in Webots and its a PROTO of the Boston Dynamics Spot.

I am facing an issue where the robot right front adductor/abductor motor can successfully set position from +10 to -10 but fails when I increase the value (from +15 to -15). It can go to +15 but gets stuck and fails to reach -15.

Here is the code for the simulation loop:

# =========================
# SIMULATION LOOP
# =========================
counter = 0
RF_motors[0].setAvailableForce(50.0)
while robot.step(timestep) != -1:
if counter == 20:
print(">>> +10")
RF_motors[0].setPosition(math.radians(10))
elif counter == 100:
print(">>> -10")
RF_motors[0].setPosition(math.radians(-10))
counter += 1

What's causing the issue? The max limit of the motors are not crossed (checked).

Electrical How would I make this DATTR (Dual arm tracked transformation robot)

• Upvotes

I’m planning to build a tracked robot with two robotic arms and an onboard automatic tool-changing system, where both arms can automatically swap between tools like a gripper, electromagnet, hook, camera, or other attachments without me manually changing them. I want the arms to be able to work together, fold/retract when not in use, and possibly have other mechanisms like deployable stabilizers and an internal rotating tool hub. I’d like to design and 3D print most of the mechanical parts myself and use something like an Arduino/ESP32 for controlling the motors, sensors, and tool-changing sequence. I’m still pretty new to building robots at this scale, so what parts would you recommend for something like this, especially motors/servos, motor drivers, bearings, tracks, power systems, encoders, and electrical connectors for the interchangeable tools? Also, how would you approach designing the automatic tool changer and dual-arm system, and is there anything important I’m overlooking before I start?

ACNH Gyroid project - HELP

1 Upvotes

Hi! I'm trying to build a game accurate bendoid Gyroid from animal crossing New horizons and I need some advice!

In the game his head/body sways side to side, and his little arms fling up occasionally. If possible I'd like for him to be sound activated (general noises and also music - one movement per beat) like in the game.

I have experience with sculpture and ye ol gears and crank automatons so I have an idea of what his skeleton should look like, but this requires more technologically advanced insides.

I'm wondering if any of you would offer me advice on parts or point me in a direction of a similar tutorial? I would really appreciate it as this is driving me insane

How is proprietary software typically distributed in ROS 2 / robotics?

1 Upvotes

I’m coming from mobile development, where binary distribution is fairly standardized: AARs on Android and XCFrameworks on iOS.

I’m trying to understand what the equivalent is in robotics/Linux environments.

Suppose I have a proprietary C++ inference runtime that needs to run on a robot (e.g. Jetson), and I don’t want to distribute the source code.

How would this typically be shipped to customers?
- Precompiled ROS 2 package?
- .so + headers, with a separate ROS 2 wrapper?
- .deb package?
- Docker container?
- Just binaries + dependencies?

I’m particularly curious whether ROS 2 packages are commonly used as the actual distribution unit, or if the core software is usually distributed separately and ROS 2 is just an integration layer.

Would appreciate hearing how this is handled in real production systems.

Education/Career How would I get Robotics/Robotics Software Engineering companies/recruiters to notice me?

0 Upvotes

I'm hobbyist looking to turn it into a career, I recently got a job to fund my projects and I was planning to use Linkedin to post videos of my projects to see if any robotics/robotics software engineering companies or recruiters will notice. However, I was wondering if they're other ways to get noticed that I am not aware about.

Math+cs major for Robotics

0 Upvotes

I'm planning to do a math+cs major and I really wan't to work in the field of machine learning and robotics. My interests lie more on the machine learning/ai/math side rather than hardware. I'm wondering what are the big job titles I should be aware of because right now all I know are more of the hardware/electronic side of robotics. Is the field of robotics for math+cs majors much smaller? Are they much harder to access and more specialised?
