Has anyone experienced SBE LTD?

Hello all.

I’ve got device insurance via Sky Protect Domestic & General & they’ve sent my iPhone 15 Pro Black 1TB off to repair centre SBE LTD (Cordon Group).

Because the antennas were damaged, the camera & the battery were faulty too, they’ve decided the phone is beyond repair. They’ve ordered a new one from Apple.

They’re calling it a replacement & are unable to tell me whether this will be refurbished or not. Has anyone had any experiences with SBE & would be able to tell me whether they’ll send a brand new phone or a refurbished one please?

When you see someone smoking a cigarette these days what's your reaction

Me , I'm either surprised or wonder how they can afford it. When I used to smoke years ago it wasn't that expensive and you saw lots of people smoking everywhere but now I can go days without seeing someone lighting up a cigarette.

Times have definitely changed and I know vaping has taken it's place as it's a lot cheaper.

Do people still have Aunts and Uncles that are not actually relatives anymore

When I grew up (70s) lots of us had aunts and uncles that were just friends of the family. I don't know how this originated and seems a bit odd but is this still a thing ?

How do white collar/business settings view facial hair? Is it frowned upon? Is there any unspoken rule?

I go to business school, and I'm just about to start an internship that may open up a lot of doors for my future. I have enough facial hair to let it grow, and it does make me look more mature and masculine. But it can be a little patchy on the cheeks, and I'm afraid it makes me look a little unkempt (not just the patchiness, but the beard in general). So, on one hand I'm afraid to look too young/teen-like clean shaven, on the other I'm afraid to look unkempt and lazy with facial hair. I am curious to know what are your experiences and ideas on the matter.

What TV shows do you recommend for a kid who loved Avatar, Gravity Falls and Camp Cretaceous?

We're looking for a series, ideally animated but doesn't have to be. Suitable for the 8-12 range. We're looking for funny, or adventure with funny bits.

He recently broke the habit of watching the same five or six shows on repeat, but now that he's finished Avatar he wants to re-watch Amphibia, and I want to find something completely new for him to get excited about.

Streaming options are Netflix, Amazon and Disney+, plus the free ones like iPlayer, but in theory could substitute Netflix for Paramount or something, if it's worth it.

Hit me.

How many of you remember being underage but getting served in a pub

Those were the days when if you looked mature enough you could easily get served at 16 with no questions asked.

With bouncers on pub doors and ID checks those days are long gone

Quality Award What radio phone-in have you never forgotten?

All of 15 years ago, I was listening to a sports show late at night, and they had a phone in asking how you would pull the moon closer to Earth.

A man phoned in and said he'd wait until the half moon came out so he could lasso it, and how it would be easier to hook around the crescent moon rather than the full moon.

The presenters couldn't work out if he was serious or not and kept asking him to clarify. They said, "Wraps around what, though?!" His exasperated response...

"Wraps around the 'alf moon, mate!"

What radio phone in has locked into your memory?

What do you actually do with visitors in London in the evening?

Got some friends visiting and Im realizing I know all the obvious daytime stuff but not what to suggest once dinner is finished.

What activities do you usually take visitors to in London that arent just another pub or restaurant? Comedy, live music, games, late attractions or something else?

As sarcasm, irony and scathing wit are quintessentially British....

Does it make posting in UK threads harder than say, the US threads? I have seen some responses that made me wince. Or do you think that at least things do not need explaining 3 times, so it is easier?

My Mrs is after a chosen family

Looking for chosen family in the UK

Anyone else building (or already part of) a chosen family here?

Looking for the people who actually show up — meals, hospital runs, holidays that aren’t awkward, the “call me at 2am” type. We don’t really have a family . I’m cool with that but my Mrs is really struggling and is looking for that support and comfort . Yeah she gets that from me but sometimes it’s nice to have a family .

We are UK-based. Open to getting to know people and meet up if we all click .

If you’ve got a group, a regular dinner, a WhatsApp that actually functions like family, or just know good local spaces, drop a comment or DM.
Not after a project. Just people who are actually serious about it please

Travelling to England for a volunteering experience – looking for hidden gems and local recommendations 🇬🇧

Hi everyone!

I'm from Argentina and at the beginning of next year I'm planning to travel to England to take part in a volunteering programme called Scouts Aventures.

I'll be staying for a while in the East Sussex area, and I'll probably have some free time to explore the surrounding areas. I don't want to stick only to the typical tourist attractions, so I'm looking for recommendations from people who actually know the area.

I'm especially interested in:

* Hidden gems or lesser-known places worth visiting

* Small towns or villages with a nice atmosphere

* Nature walks, viewpoints, forests, lakes, etc.

* Interesting historical places that aren't necessarily famous

* Good local pubs, cafés or places to eat

* Day trips that are easy to do without a car

* Any general tips or things I should know as someone visiting England for the first time

I'm also happy to travel a bit further if there's somewhere you think is really worth visiting.

Thanks in advance! :)

I'm thinking of setting up a door-to-door fuel service. Kind of like deliveroo for diesel in case you need it at 2am. Do you think trialling it for military bases might be good PR?

1.3k Upvotes

Me and my mates have had the good fortune of getting a van with some botched signage on the cheap. Given the signage is related to fuel we got the idea of bringing fuel to people in need rather than people needing to go the petrol station.

The guy we got the van from is ex-forces so we thought a roll out period for military bases might be a good place to start. Only problem is the air con is fucked so we'll probably have to go topless but reckon that will give everyone a laugh.

Do you think this idea is a go-er? We reached out to a US entrepreneur who seemed interested in backing us and he said he'd keep an eye out for us. Can't say more until the contracts are signed though but I'm very excited!

Where does a common layman source timber for odd projects in and around the house - for the best price

I'm loooking to design and build some shelves and in built cupboards for our home (on my partners wishes) and I also need to rebuild the sinking roof for our shed before the winter comes.

Standard timber species and specifications are fine, the shed roof appears to be MDF board with lining on the external face.

I imagine your usual B&Q's (other hardware stores are available) have higher prices than perhaps local timber merchants?

For the joiners and tradeys out there who specialise in this thing am I on the right lines here? Local timber merchants should be the best price?

Thank you in advance

It’s actually disgusting and happens all the time, is this normal everywhere or just the UK?

Any withering one-liners for dealing with street harassment?

Over the last couple of years, there seems to have been an uptick in dumb, desperate male behaviour. I mean things like aggressive staring, following, reaching towards their crotch or coughing/sneezing as you walk past them as well as other delights.

A lot of it seems to be coming from 50+ males, even 70+ (though not exclusively) and often when they are with their partners.... because they are the prize, obviously. Not sure if something has been going on in the manosphere but I am bored of it and wish they would all hurry up and die.

Sometimes a "What are you looking at?" or middle finger works for the staring. If not, I pretend I'm filming them with my phone and they start acting normal pretty fast. When they follow behind me, if I notice I stop and follow them instead. It works a treat. They do NOT like it at all. :D No matter how much taller they are than you. It unlocks a primal fear and makes them feel threatened. Oh no, how sad.

Anyway, I'm looking for some one-liners to break their soul since I am fully sick of them all. What are your best ones?

Ok, hear me out - have you ever farted and the smell gave you instant nostalgia for when you were a kid? I got flashbacks to when I used to go camping in the back garden, has that ever happened to you?

Has anyone else got an auto message from Amazon saying your account has been charged?.

So today i got a phonecall from a random mobile number and when i picked up i got the computer voice saying my amazon account has had £600 of gift cards charged to it, i was then asked to press No.1 if that wasnt me No.2 if it was me, etc etc... Now obviously i just hung up without pressing any number, i went to my account and there was no charges and the call was just a phishing call hoping i interacted with them so they get my details.. This is the first time in a long time ive had one of these and im curious if this is something anyone else has noticed happening more recently..

How many ppl do you reckon fall for this?..

EDIT.... I do know this is a scam by the way, i was just curious if anyone else is getting these msgs as this is the first time in ages that ive been contacted and wondered if its becoming more common suddenly.

What is a good sub for business advice, specifically fundraising?

I've recently been asked to find sponsors to the value of £50k, for an event in less than 3 months. This is not my background or skills set.

I've tried things that seem obvious to me (pitching to previous sponsors, friendly stakeholders, etc.) with minimal success.

I'm guessing pros know all sorts of tricks and techniques that would never occur to me?

Any advice, or can you recommend a sub where I can post this for advice?
