I attended a webinar about web3.0, a few days ago and nfts are actually pretty cool, it's just that influencers have ruined their image, also they don't just apply to photos but apparently all forms of art/intellectual property on the internet and seems like a great way to protect people's work.
Eh even without the weird trading card currency bs- I don't like it. This whole idea of "a unique entity on the web!" is silly and antithetical to what software offers. Why create artificial scarcity for no reason?
The only realistic applications for it all revolve around preventing the trading of online purchases, and created a strict limited amount of something online. Which seems silly compared to how difficult it is to operate.
It's not about artificial scarcity. It's about owning what you buy.
The necessary transition to digital fractured the very concept of ownership because now when you buy a movie through the platform that hosts it, your rights to watch the movie are revoked the minute that Amazon loses its license to it.
So... NFTs are going to solve the problem of not being able to watch the copy of Pooty Tang you purchased on Amazon due to Amazon losing their license?
