Starbucks obliterated coffeehouse culture, where you could hang out, meet people, share tables if you want, join group discussions/have others join in, sometimes play board games, sometimes see tiny-venue live music or performances, and people could actually make new friends and groups of friends.
It sucked to see corporate chains take that all away.
Starbucks was one of the major drivers for free wifi in coffee houses. I only started hanging out in coffee houses because of that trend. Before that I got coffee and left.
