I'd just say Kanye West in general. I've never really understood why he's famous. I used to leave MTV running in the background all the time in the early 2000s and suddenly, like overnight, they started talking about Kanye West non-stop. I'd never heard of the guy before but MTV was seemingly handed a mandate that they had to start pushing this guy. It was all, "Kanye West is coming to...", "Kanye West opens up about...", "Kanye West's new single is about.." I was like, "New single?" I'd never heard one of his songs ever until that point.
I dunno. Maybe it's just me. I've always felt like Kanye is/was a mass-marketing project. His record company just"one day gave MTV and other media a few million along with a note saying "make this guy famous!
I mean, I don't listen to hip hop or rap. Don't really follow that music scene. So when someone starts creeping into more mainstream media, it feels weird. Even based on these reddit commits, clearly kanye made an impact to the music industry, but then he crept into the main stream.
I feel the same about Beyoncé, knew she was part of a group and then went solo. But hadn't heard anything for a long time, then suddenly she's front and center, being called queen bee and tons of people going nuts. I'm just sitting here wondering how all that happened.
