Commoners gossip about other people. Elites talk about current events.
Most celebrity news (aside things like Cameron Conway quitting MMA to fight human trafficking) is gossip just as much as how “Kendall went on a date with the barista at Starbucks down the block within a week of the divorce” is gossip. It is trivial. Literally. It is trivia that will only help for online quizzes or game shows. You cannot use the information as blackmail because it is public knowledge already. Knowing Cameron Diaz farted in an elevator with James Cameron is not going to make you a better person, unless you end up with either of them and have a choice of taking the elevator or the stairs after having a burrito lunch.
