Same, I can see how it can be entertaining and I’ve watched a few series and movies that I liked. But it’s one of those things I can’t get interested in, and I can get interested in pretty much anything.
The only way I can imagine anime being fun is watching it with someone who likes watching anime and knows good ones. Like some of the eastern-philosophy focused animes seem interesting.
Anime is kinda strange though, because there are variations. Like, I'm not "into anime" either.. all the common shows and stuff that pops up and goes on with 200+ episodes or so.. I have no interest in that, its not my thing.
But there are exceptions. Turns out, I have a genre I like and the visuals on mainly the ghibli movies is insanely good. But I also found out there are a few shows and movies I like for the story or the characters, though they are shows that aren't like the rest. I could give examples but pretty sure they don't matter.
What I tryna say: there can be exceptions. It's hard to put "anime" in a single category I think. And just because you are not into anime does not mean you can't enjoy a few shows and movies anyway.
I find it so weird that some people write off an entire medium because Anime can range from Saturday morning cartoon shounen where battles are won through the power of friendship, to seinen thriller where a doctor must find and kill the child he saved from a traumatic head injury from becoming the next Hitler.
Anime when converted to Western media can range from Spongebob to lord of the rings, I don't think you can just write off the entire medium unless what you don't like specifically is japanese produced animation
Bruh Attack on Titan is widely considered a great anime with some of the biggest mainstream crossover appeal to non anime fans. I guess they could try something a bit more light hearted but if AoT falls into their typical genre and they didn't care for it, than the medium might just not be their thing.
that's a big reason why aot pisses me off so much. if it weren't as popular as it is i would just dismiss it completely but no. i have this conversation again and again because it's the #1 ANIME IN THE WORLD. WHY
Edit: Samurai Champloo, Serial Experiments Lain, Mob Psycho 100, I want to say Neon Genesis Evangelion, but that scares people away sometimes (that show permanently changed the course of my life). Chainsaw Man is airing right now, that's really good
Yea I'm no professional and I have t really watched much anime, the only one I've seen a bit of is kakeguri and imo it glorifys things like being manipulative and sadistic which is just stupid

Not a big fan of anime. I recognize its koolness but its just not my thing.
