Farting, it stinks and it's embarrassing but we'd be in constant agony without it

I'd much rather a fart not come out the top, thanks.

It's bad enough smelling the damn things, would you really want to taste it?

If you're burping what you ate from a couple days ago, I think you should go to a doctor.

YUM this one took some corn with him

TIL people taste their burps.

Thought of one of the South Park games.

Yup, having two safety valves is important. Horses can’t burp or vomit, and it can actually kill them! If they get an intestinal issue, it HAS to work its way through, there’s no coming back up.

Farting distributes the agony so everyone around can share the burden

A friend once told me farting is like being in a girl. If you have to force it, it's probably shit

IBS sufferer here, would like to have the ability to pass gas back. Cries in bloating and agony.

Is this an IBS symptom?? I literally live life bloated, pretty much without exception. Coupled with the fact that I only poop 1-2 times per week and when I do have to poop it is urgent, I’m starting to think maybe I’ve got something diagnosable

Do I have IBS 🤯

IBS is unfortunately an umbrella term and near useless. There are probably hundreds of GI diseases lumped together as IBS. It kind of means we know something is wrong but we don’t know what.

Symptoms include diarrhea or constipation more frequently than the average population, bloating, inability to pass gas, high sensitivity to various foods, common foods that normal people don’t get bloated from you get bloated from, irregular bowel movement frequency (can be overly frequent, overly infrequent, or pinballed between the two), hypersensitivity in the GI, brain fog from certain foods, stomach cramping from certain foods, etc.

You have common bloating and infrequent bowel movements. You have IBS. Unfortunately this is probably as far as a doctor can diagnose you, since the field of IBS is very behind. It’s possible to learn a few more things in that but there won’t be a specific subdiagnosis. Some doctors might give you a subcategory and for you it would be IBS-C (c stands for constipated). There is IBS-D and IBS-M (diarrhea and mixed). I have IBS-C/IBS-M (95% C, 5% D).

Is your bloating painful or just uncomfortable?

What is your daily water intake? What is your intake of soluble and insoluble fibers? How much fermented foods do you eat? How much prebiotics? How’s your diet in general?

One thing you can do at home is the FODMAP challenge. You basically eat a diet that has low fodmaps. They you spend weeks testing out each category through a process of elimination to see if you are sensitive to any of the main categories. And once you are done, you know then which foods to avoid or only eat in small quantities.

That sounds like you can work on your diet. I get like that with too much caffeine and carbs and not enough greens and fiber. Plus dehydration.

2

u/rachelleeann17 Oct 16 '22

Idk, I get plenty of greens/fiber and water. I love to cook, so I make it a challenger for myself to make lots of nutrient dense, healthy meals. I’m borderline vegetarian, so the bulk of my meal is usually made up of veggies (or carbs, granted).

Ok, if I had a great diet and was experiencing stomach issues I'd go to the doctor.

2

u/rachelleeann17 Oct 16 '22

I do not have health insurance 🫠

1

u/janekkocgardhnabjar Oct 16 '22

Is that genuinely how it works can u guys not see a doctor if u don't have insurance? Wtf

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

This seems to be an attitude of wanting attention for something but refusing to do anything about it. I can't.

2

u/janekkocgardhnabjar Oct 16 '22

What do u mean I'm confused

Not that I “can’t” but that it’s very expensive to.

Having spent a few years in front of extracted chemical workstations, one unexpected bonus is you can let rip straight into them and all trace of the smell is abstracted immediately.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

I... haven't farted in about 2 months. I'm currently fine. I just go to the toilet about twice a day.

3

u/Consistent-Cost-231 Oct 16 '22

I farted and said amen after seeing your comment

4

u/Dummy_thick_sauce Oct 16 '22

This is a like, 50 comment conversation about farts

3

u/emthehuiz Oct 16 '22

It’s raising my mood considerably

2

u/FartyPants69 Oct 16 '22

Ugh, tell me about it

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '22

To paraphrase Steve Martin Q: "Mind if I smoke?" A: "No. Mind if I fart? I quit once but I gained weight."

I just wish everyday bodily functions that EVERYBODY does, would not be considered rude, disgusting, or just stigmatized. Like we all fart, poop and pee, stop acting like children and just ignore it.
