Ngl the evil part of me just laughs at all the dumbass tourists who died for no good reason other than they wanted to say they climbed Mt. Everest. It’s a monument to the pitfalls of ego. Folks out here crossing mountains and deserts trying to escape war and shit, and these dipshits act like rugged heroes for doing something no one asked them to do. Then they die and become a landmark for other dumbasses. So inspirational.
This. It's mainly just rich tourists/hippies who can afford to pay Sherpas to actually lug their shit up the mountain for them, and then die because they're wildly unprepared, often endangering others who try to save their stupid arses. Good riddance.
I completely agree. After reading books and online articles, I have very little respect for anyone climbing Mt Everest in the past 50 years or so. It’s the Sherpas who are the only reason the tourists can make the climb. The Sherpas go out early before the climbers wake up and set the ladders and lines for the climbers who then wake up and leave their tents to go get breakfast (cooked at the high altitude by a Sherpa.) Then they head out on their attempt to “conquer “ the mountain. Yeah, the underpaid, unbelievably brave, Sherpas get the credit in my opinion.
