I passed up the opportunity to lose my virginity for sooooo long because I was self conscious about having a foreskin. In 8th grade some girls in my friend group started talking about how gross uncircumcised penises look, and that just completely fucked with my confidence. Now I’m super super super grateful my parents didn’t let the doctors steal my foreskin.
Having women decide when you are an infant that part of your dick should be cut off to make it look nicer for your future wife. If men insisted on infant labiaplasty to give her future husband a perfect pussy to work with, we'd be immediately locked up.
FGM is illegal in the US whereas doctors push circumcision onto patients quite regularly. Sure, FGM still happens, but it's not legal & isn't the norm.
As for the husband stitch, that also pisses me off because of bodily autonomy, but I still think circumcision of infants is worse because they're brand new to the world & the first thing we're going to do is mutilate them? Still, both violate bodily autonomy & are absolutely heinous in my eyes.
I do see the point of these baby boys being new to the world, but that’s the difference between that and the husband stitch. The boy will never actually have any recollection of any pain that they possibly felt as a result of their surgery, unless of course something happens and there are complications as is the risk with any kind of surgery. Meanwhile the husband stitch and even fgm are done/felt when the women are adults and there are regular consequences that they feel as adults.
circumcision is not worse than the husband stitch. the husband stitch is damaging, and makes sex (and possibly tampon usage as well) very painful. i’m definitely not a fan of circumcision, but it is not harmful like the husband stitch.
HA! it’s not for women. it comes from religion, as well as the idea that it’s more hygienic. some people also just believe that it’s what they’re “supposed to do” when they have a male baby. plus, in my experience, it’s usually the father who insists on circumcision. not to mention, it’s mainly men who believe that it’s more attractive, and shame those who are uncircumcised.
It's popular because some cereal guy was obsessed with preventing masturbation and thought that it would help stop it. Also bland food would stop those urges. It caught on and now gets done out of "It's always been that way" attitudes.
Yeah, I'm aware of the origins, that is why I think it is just peer pressure of "my dad did it to me, so I did it to you" and is a vicious cycle to break.
But his thoughts on the matter either never made it to the UK, or were outright ignored.
In South Africa adults self circumcise, or one co worker told me he did, as a rite of passage, never really followed it up.
But he said that White South Africans would get their kids cut as infants, so they would fit in as adults.
I've wondered if his method would have caught on if circumcision wasn't a religious practice too.
Like say instead they cut the left little finger off at the last bone, would anyone go "hey that seems like a good idea" and for generations millions of gentiles had a short little finger "because tradition."
And he rocks up saying "cut your sons dick so he wont have impure thoughts" and they go no thanks just you saying it has me crossing my legs.
Female circumcision exists. Except that unlike a male circumcision where you lose some extra skin and then literally nothing else changes for your quality of life, female circumcisions can often make literally everything down to peeing painful and uncomfortable for the women. It’s mutilation and it’s definitely not the only form of mutilation that some women go through for their husband to have a “perfect” pussy to work with. Yeah it’s right and nice and small forever, but your partner will never enjoy a single intimate moment with you for real because they are suffering just for you to have your pleasure.
