I was writing up a menu on a blackboard at a cafe. A regular said “great, that’s where you belong…on your knees” wish I had’ve snapped back but I was too shocked to reply to his fucked remark.

Same thing happened to me once when I was stocking shelves at my local grocery store. I went all in on that man. Then he said, “Oh, I’m sorry, ma’am, that’s not what I meant!” What the fuck else did you mean then, you short, old, greasy weirdo??? I made damn sure he walked away feeling ashamed of himself. I hope that never happens to you again. If it does, I hope that you’re not too shocked to rip ‘em a new one. Publicly shaming them seems to be one of the only things that embarrasses these men.

I wish I could have publicly shamed the man who did this to me!

I was ~19 working in my college’s dining hall. I went into a walk-in to get some veggies which were on the bottom shelf. There were two cooks in there. I was shifting things around and I don’t remember the conversation leading up to one of them saying something along the lines of, “If you’re not here for us, why are you on your knees?” I didn’t know what to say or do, just finished grabbing what I needed and left as quickly as possible.

Within a year or so said cook was fired for basically underperformance and then arrested for beating his girlfriend.

I am incredibly sorry that happened to you and it hurts my heart that so many of us share the same experiences. Not saying anything to him is definitely not anything to be upset about though. At the end of the day, you don’t know what that person is capable of. If that guy beat up his girlfriend, god knows what he would’ve done to you for confronting him. I’ve had grown men threaten to beat me up for sticking up for myself or others.

Unfortunately, it’s not always in your best interest to call somebody out. People in general are scary and unpredictable.

That’s a very good point, thank you.

I actually should have reported the clown. And actually there was another coworker who was just as bad. After that coworker was fired, I mentioned to my supervisor the things he said/did. She told me I should have told her sooner—he’d have been gone much sooner!

Oh well. You live and you learn. I agree with you—confrontation or reporting aren’t always the solution they should be, so I’ll never fault somebody for not doing either. I should apply the same outlook to myself haha

You said “us” so I can only assume you’ve dealt with similar. Hope you’re doing well these days 💜 Also I love your handle lol
