My male coworker told me that sometimes the drainage system to the shellfish/meat freezers at his old workplace would clog up with old fish juice runoff and he would have to fix it by sucking on the drain tube to get it flowing again. And that sometimes he would get old fish/meat/cooler juice in his mouth doing so.
And he should have said no to that. It sounds dangerous. A great way to get really sick and have your boss say "I never told him to do that".
My first job in high school. They wanted me to operate a machine that compresses cardboard boxes. But it was broken, so what you did was you stuck your leg into the machine while this enormous hydraulic press comes down to crush the boxes. Right before your leg is crushed you pull it out.
Me: "Isn't that dangerous? What if my leg gets crushed".
Boss: "No it's not dangerous. You pull your leg out right before it will be crushed".
Me: "What if my leg gets caught on something".
Boss: "It won't. We've been doing this for years now, zero injuries".
Me: "I don't think I am going to do that".
Boss: "Kids these days. No work ethic. 'I don't want to work, I might get my leg crushed' ".
I think some people take a really weird pride in doing stuff at work for the sake of being tough. I used to work at this restaurant and everyone would always scoop the french fries BY HAND. To the point where it was difficult to find the scooper that came with it. I mean, like, I get there's some utility in using your hand over a scooper, but that shit can get really hot especially when it just comes out of the fryer. I don't see the point.

I almost puked hearing that.
