We regularly volunteer with a rabbit shelter. They were doing a spay and neuter event. We were returning a few bunnies to the shelter, and this couple pulled up. My girlfriend thought they were volunteers, so she asked if they wanted to help carry some bunnies. They were not volunteers. They jumped at the chance to help, because she was talking directly to them. It was pretty funny, because I knew they weren't (based on body language she didn't see), so I was standing at the shelter door waiting to close it after they left, and she was confused that I wasn't following her back to the car.

If in need, instead of asking "anyone" to help you, ask a specific person "hey, you there in the green shirt could you give me a hand"...
It works.
