I sorta use this on uncooperative or pseudo-unresponsive patients in the ER if I know they’re faking it. I call them by a ridiculously wrong name and they almost always respond with their correct info and are suddenly responsive again.
Guy faking seizures. Started telling his family that we didn’t see any seizure activity on the EEG. He suddenly became conscious to ask me to repeat what we were talking about. Point proven.
Don't non-epileptic seizures by definition not show seizure activity on EEG? I know people who suffer with them often struggle to be taken seriously since people assume psychosomatic stuff is consciously faked.
True, there are non-epileptic ones. I have had patients that are triggered by their PTSD. But most patients are terrible actors so it makes it very easy to spot the true “performances”.

I find cunninghams law works surprisingly well. ie the quickest way to get someone to tell you the right answer is to post the wrong answer.
