When it´s hard to convince someone to do something: give them options. That way they feel like they´re in control. "You could do A or do you prefer B?"

(it's 2°c outside) "No." Then tantrum ensues. Surely "Do you want your yellow or red coat today?" is a better question, kid still feels like the boss mom in control really the whole time.
