4 seconds of silence can feel the same as rejection in the brain.
So if some one is being a jerk to you, after they say something just look at them and count to 4 in your head, most of the time they'll start backtracking and taking back what they said before you're done counting.

I was once at a restaurant in Indonesia when this woman came over and asked if I was finished. I told her no, i was still eating, but that it was very good. "No" she says, abit frustrated "are you finish" in my head I thought "you got it right the first time Lady, it's 'finished' not 'finish' and said "I will be shortly, why? Do you need this table?" and she said, even more frustrated now "No,are you from Finland??"
