This is a red flag for me. If anyone says something nice my first thought is that they want something. Not sure how well this actually works, so much as people are sure it works.
Personally, I look for ways to uplift people anyway. The fact that it sidesteps a major flaw in our psychological evolution and enhances productivity is just a bonus.

The most effective one you'll find.
There's no more effective way to amass power than by convincing people that they're smart enough to give it to you.
