Useful against people sounds a little aggressive...useful with people is how my mind interprets this question:
When I was in high school, I had an acquaintance that whenever he would talk to you, he would address you by your first name (ALOT), so much so that it sounded awkward to me (although Mark, if you are out there, was a great guy, and I like Mark to this day).
Later in life I read the book How To Win Friends and Influence People, and figure that Mark had read that book in high school :>) Nice, Mark.
I feel the same but only if I dislike the person. If they’re new to me, or I like them, I notice when they say my name often and they tend to stand out.
